The journal Borec was founded  by the Union of Associations of the WWII veterans, antifascist fighters and members of the National Liberation Struggle (NLS) of Slovenia in December 1948 (the first issue was published in 1949). At the beginning, it was printed by Publishing house Borec, then by Mladika, since 1993 by Publishing Association ZAK and from 2013 onwards by Sophia Publishing House. The Journal has evolved over time from a veterans' gazette into a humanistic, interdisciplinary and socially engaged publication based on the international and intergenerational co-operation. Each volume consists of nine issues. The main concern of the journal is the research of history, with special emphasis on the topics and contexts of WWII, and the in-depth analysis of current topics of social reality, taking in consideration the necessity of historical memory as opposed to nowadays trends of historical revisionism, de-contextualisation and ignoring the conflict segments of social reality. From this standpoint, Borec is against reducing the NLS to bare ideology or folklore, but is rather evolving its basic dimension of antifascist resistance in terms of class struggle and social transformation.

The Journal is available as an electronic flipbook (Adobe Flash player must be installed) and as a PDF of selected articles and full volumes, which can be obtained via e-mail order.

Older  volumes are fully available for free download. In the case of last two volumes only first 70 pages can be downloaded free of charge.

For each issue English and Slovenian Author's abstracts can be downloaded.
